CARVED WITH SHOULAO AND ATTENDANT

An amber snuff bottle, superbly hollowed, of rectangular form with rounded shoulders and a cylindrical neck, with a neatly carved oval footrim, the rich honey-colored material extensively crizzled, carved on one main side with Shoulao holding a staff in one hand, stroking his long beard beside his attendant carrying a fly-whisk and smiling up at him, both in the shade of a pine tree, the reverse with a similar scene, the two narrow sides carved with rockwork and pine.
