CARVED WITH BATS, GOURD AND INSCRIPTION

An agate snuff bottle, very well hollowed, of squared form with rounded shoulders and a cylindrical neck, and with a neatly carved oval footrim, of honey-brown tone with a dappled dark brown inclusion to one main side, carved in relief with a double gourd issuing vapors in which a pair of bats fly, beside a four character inscription set in a vertical framed border, the reverse left plain.
