Yellow nephrite of this type with its soft glow was a favorite of the Qianlong emperor. Yang Boda, in his well-known article on Qianlong's jade collection in Arts of Asia in 1992, shows two large yellow jade vases, which undoubtedly hail from the Palace Workshops. The snuff bottle collection of Mary and George Bloch has a bottle in the same material which has a Qianlong reign mark to the base, helping to date both bottles and works of art in this material to the Eighteenth century.
