"Skin" jade bottles, as they are known, are usually left uncarved, but with a soft polish to allow the beauty of both the skin and the white nephrite to shine through, in this case with a sheen to the golden colored skin. These bottles ar very popular with collectors, especially the Chinese, who appreciate and understand the use of the skin of the river-bed pebble for creating wonderful handling pieces in both bottles and other jade carvings.
