Bowenite was used only rarely for snuff bottles and is often confused with nephrite as was the case with the cataloguing of this bottle by the auction house where it was sold. One of the joys of this stone is its tactile quality and this example is no exception. When held in the hand it acquires a soft glow and has an almost creamy feel to it.
