Technically this bottle is not a monochrome glass since it is not of one even color.  It fades from the base up from a clear bright red to a transparent glass.  The red color is unique, the best description is a strawberry-red, but the bottle also has a slight brown tinge to it towards the base.  This is only visible in certain lights and in all likelihood results from the gold content present in the glass mixture.  In reality, this is a carved glass bottle of a highly sophisticated nature.  It is the only example known which is not in opaque yellow, although there is a partially ribbed ruby-red example in the Crane Collection.  That the ribbing is hand carved shows the level of dexterity of the glass maker, and even without the opaque yellow examples, would indicate a Palace attribution for this exciting bottle.
