MOLDED PINK WITH PEONIES

Porcelain, of globular form with a small oval footrim, molded and applied with two peonies in full flower with buds, their petals in high relief with entwined stems and over-lapping leaves, wrapping around the bottle beside a descending butterfly, enameled in colors of pinks and green on a stippled mauve ground graduating to an orange-peach color at the shoulders and neck and resembling a ripe fruit; the base with a four character seal-mark Qianlong nianzhi in black enamel and faintly gilded.

Attributed to Jingde Zhen.

The pinkish-mauve ground and unusual molded design are both very rare on porcelain snuff bottles, and no other example appears to be recorded.
