Although unsigned it is possible that this bottle can be attributed to the potter Yucheng by comparison with a similar bottle signed Yucheng in an English Collection. Unlike Chen Guozhi and Wang Bingrong, Li Yucheng focused on one particular traditional style and subject matter. Apart from one brush pot depicting Shoulao, most of his pieces are decorated with birds, plants and insects depicted in a highly naturalistic manner. However there were other potters working at this time in Jingde Zhen, with seven who exclusively produced snuff bottles, most of them to a very high level and often carving similar scenes.
